Wow then I'd REALLY be pissed about not seeing him in his prime. I wonder what the Flyers' and Wings' offers were.

Besides the obvious boatload of cash, I wonder what it would have cost the Flyers to acquire #99 in 1988?

I'm guessing something like Propp, Mellanby and a couple of firsts?

I'm wondering if the Flyers were actually involved in serious talks for Gretzky.

Sad day when you make four signings and Zac Rinalod is the best of the bunch. I give him credit for working his way to the NHL, but...man...

Also, Bill, do you know if the Flyers ever collected on the "futures" from the Roenick deal? If not, maybe "futures" could be Anze Kopitar????????

I would think Mellanby and/or Pelle Eklund for sure, maybe Kerry Huffman (very highly regarded and projected at that time to be an NHL impact defenseman), first-round draft picks and a lot of cash.

The future considerations had to be agreed upon at some point to complete the deal, but that's just a technicality. Could have been as simple as a petty cash transaction.

The trade was Gretzky, McSorley and Krushelnyski in exchange for Jimmy Carson, Martin Gelinas, first-round draft picks in 1989, 1991 and 1993, and $15 million.

So, a young 100-point player, the best forward prospect in the system, 3 1sts, and $15M. And to get him and Janet to not go to LA, you'd have to beat it.

Probably one of Tocchet/Propp, Mellanby, 3 1sts, $20M. Maybe you take Krushelnyski out and make it like $17M. McSorely had to be included.

Gretzky was still in the latter end of his prime at the point of the trade. He did win the Art Ross 3 times playing for the Kings. (1st, 2nd, and 4th season)

Yes Marty went were Wayne went as his protector.

I'm thinking you could put Per-Erik (I couldn't type the last name) in there with Tocchet or Propp. He was that good during those years.

The future considerations from the JR deal to LA could have been compensation for that hair dye JR was using at the time.

He was just a godden god sent to us from Asgard to play hockey. Look how perfectly that jersey perfectly hugs his body.Only a man of real superior power can pull of a turtleneck.

I imagine Gretzky would certainly have come here, but I do think his wife's movie career was a priority for him at the time (if he couldn't stay in Edmonton) and that he really wanted LA.

Question.

From my understanding Ivan Provorov has an early Birthday. I didn't look again but I believe he is a January baby. My question is, should he make the team and his play tail off by mid season, can we send him to the minors after his 19th birthday?

I believe the age at the beginning of the season sets the requirements and Ivan will be 20 on Jan 13th. So I think that's why it's Juniors or NHL this season. I think a prospect in the CHL has to be 20 on opening day to be able to go to the AHL.

The question was could he be sent to Lehigh Valley if he struggled. He can't if he starts here and struggles it's back to Brandon for the rest of the year with no chance of return.

Yes it was. And wishful thinking is he makes it and doesn't turn back so the age limit doesn't matter. I wasn't correcting anyone.
